Data Research Analyst Intern

July - October 2024 • Bensenville, IL

What I liked

The data analyst team was relatively unstructured, so I had the opportunity to choose areas that I was interested in pursuing. I was interested in gathering community data regarding trending shows and games, so I decided to create tools in that area. Other interns analyzed data about topics they were passionate about, such as trading card games, figurines, etc. I enjoyed this freedom to explore different fields, as well as the opportunities to collaborate with other like-minded interns.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been more structure and guidance, especially towards the beginning of the internship experience. Getting started was somewhat difficult as instructions were not always clear. Although there are some beginner projects to work on, starting out is pretty unstructured. Furthermore, communicating and collaborating with other interns is difficult due to the position being remote. This seemed to improve towards the end of my internship experience.

Advice

I would advise others to choose projects that they are truly interested in. The experience can be quite rewarding especially if you are dealing with data that you understand or can relate to. Overall, with this internship, you get what you put into it. It is a good opportunity to develop your skills, however you have to personally put in the work and research topics for yourself.

Project Coordinator

July - December 2024 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I love that this was my first experience out of college, to be able to work in an industry that makes me happy was truly a dream come true! As an anime and collectible fan I loved the cooledtured environment, although the position was remote you could feel the passion and excitement the team shares for the anime culture. Everyone I worked with was so friendly and hardworking and I loved learning and being able to apply what I learned in school here in this position.

What I wish was different

Enjoy it! It was so much fun to not only grow professionally but to also have such fun experiences while working! It was so great to see the content creators grow in their skills and I always enjoyed our meetings!

Web Developer Intern

September - December 2024 • Bensenville, IL

What I liked

Cooledtured offers a welcoming environment to contribute to a variey of programming assignments that will go live on their website. They give the interns a lot of freedom to design and implement the changes the way that they want.

What I wish was different

Cooledtured is flexible with how you put in your weekly 15 hours of work, but I thought that the meetings which occured twice a week started too late and went on for too long.

Advice

I would advise incoming interns not to be afraid to share their ideas for the website. The internship is very collaborative, and being responsible for an innovative change is a great way to leave your mark.

WebDev

July - October 2024 • Bensenville, IL

What I liked

This internship gave me a lot of hands-on experience. Nearly all of my work was directly used by the company and thus gave me valuable experience for real-world web development work. I appreciated the team-element as while a lot of the work was still individually guided, there was a good balance of cooperation and teamwork not just with other WebDev interns, but with other departments too, such as the designers.

What I wish was different

Advice

While there is a good amount of explanation over the work expected of you and the general approach, the programming itself was entirely self-guided. This is not a problem, just a note that you must be ready and willing to learn the proper languages yourself, and figure out how to properly write front-end WebDev code yourself. I found this a valuable way to gain experience.

Data Research Analyst Intern

August 2024 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved that I was able to use and improve my critical thinking skills when it came to solving problems. A lot of data collection and coding needed to be figured out, usually independently, to solve problems and find answers to those problems, which really helped in my understanding of the entire data research process. Everyone on the team openly communicated with one another and they all responded in a relatively quick time frame to any questions I had. I had plenty of opportunities to share my progress and present important metrics and findings to the team and to the entire company in our town hall meetings.

What I wish was different

I mostly used python for a lot of my analysis, since it worked the best with a software we were using. I wish I had used more SQL and Tableau for some of my research.

Advice

Be prepared to solve a lot of your analysis problems independently. There is guidance, but a lot of it comes down to your own ability to handle analysis.

What I wish was different

More freedom to choose an editing software you prefer.

Advice

Take the internship seriously. You have to produce good videos on a weekly basis, and take feedback well. It's busy, and moves fast, but I gained a lot of professional experience that I was looking for!

UI/UX Designer Intern

July - September 2024 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

My favorite thing about Cooledtured was being able to work comfortably and openly about my UI design that I wanted to try and implement. It was a very open workspace to share different ideas, projects, and a great place to receive feedback. Another thing was that I was able to learn different tactics and/or things that companies, upper management, and what consumers might be looking for when doing my designs.

What I wish was different

I think the only thing I wish could have been different was just some way for better communication and some form of set deliverables. While being in the UI/UX internship, it was nice to have a sort of freedom on what we worked on as there was no apparent deadline for a certain page, it would have been nice to emphasize some certain deliverables or restrictions.

Advice

I would suggest taking advice from your peers when working on designs, and try to be creative and make your own idea.

What I liked

What I liked was the experience and knowledge I could gain. I could apply skills and communicate within a team to accomplish weekly tasks.

Data Research Analyst Intern

May - August 2024 • Bensenville, IL

What I liked

This position grants you the freedom to research whatever you like as long as it's deemed useful to the organization. If you're looking to boost your portfolio with more projects, or are looking to try something new and learn, this position gives you the opportunity to manage the work you do to fit your needs.

What I wish was different

On occasion, especially if you feel stuck with a project you're working on, the lack of direction and clear objectives (outside of just generally bringing something useful to cooledtured) can make it difficult to complete larger projects that reach a dead-end, as you're unsure of exactly what the other teams in cooledtured need.

Advice

Research the company and look through their website before starting this position, as having a rough idea of what you believe could be impactful and useful for cooledtured before beginning any project gives you the advantage to start early and remain focused with your research, ensuring that all your work is useful.

Data Analyst Intern

May - August 2024 • Pleasanton, CA

What I liked

Cooledtured provided numerous datasets and encouraged us to choose our own projects, helping me discover the work I enjoy most. I appreciated the community of data interns Cooledtured brought together. Since some of us were new to data analysis, it was beneficial to learn and solve problems collaboratively rather than working alone. During the internship, I completed three different data-related projects, giving me a clearer idea of my future career path. If anyone is new and interested in Data Analysis, this would be a great place to dip your toes in.

What I wish was different

Advice

I have a background in coding, which made analyzing data in Python straightforward for me. Mentorship on coding isn't provided, so be prepared to watch tutorials and learn independently.

Project Coordinator Internship

March - May 2024 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I am grateful for the support I received during my time here. The flexible work hours allowed me to effectively manage the social media team, where I gained invaluable experience. This experience deepened my understanding of management and highlighted the significance of cultivating strong relationships and fostering a positive team environment. Cooledtured provided an excellent platform for professional growth through their internship programs, always ready to offer assistance and guidance.

What I wish was different

I believe open communication channels are essential, especially during intern on-boarding, where detailed information about their tasks would have been beneficial. But everything else, besides this, was spot-on, and I would not change a thing about it.

Advice

As an intern, we often create barriers for ourselves, including self-imposed fears. My advice to anyone joining as a project coordinator intern is to prioritize open communication channels. Don't hesitate to take the initiative and reach out first if needed. Remember, people notice and appreciate small gestures. It is important to make connections with your team from the beginning to make sure that they know you and you know them. Establishing these connections is a way to build your team and subsequently to lead them.

What I liked

In my role I would write articles on topics that I was passionate about and create promos in order to attract readers. As a game designer these skills will serve me well in creating games that players will get lost in.

What I wish was different

Everything was perfect.
