Student Philanthropy Intern
August 2020 • Moorhead, MN
What I liked
We have the best bosses, the best co-workers, and such a wonderful time as interns for the Advancement Center! The purpose of our job is to foster deeper connections with Concordia's alumni and inspire a feeling of community and higher rates of gift-giving. We get to choose our own schedule and hours based on our class workload. This is by far the best job I've ever had.
What I wish was different
Virtually nothing! Sometimes the list of projects can get long, but it keeps us on our toes and the bosses are completely willing to help make it less overwhelming!
Advice
If you're excited to speak to alumni and get to know them, this is the job for you! If you have phone anxiety, don't push this job aside, because it's a valuable and meaningful to face your fears and learn communication skills.

Facilities Management - Grounds Crew
July - August 2018 • Moorhead, MN
What I liked
I liked how the supervisors trusted their student workers to work alone. I’ve learned that if you work hard and meet their standards of work, they will trust you going out alone to complete a project.
What I wish was different
It was towards the end of summer so there wasn’t a lot of projects to be done, although if I applied earlier in the summer I think I would’ve enjoyed doing the projects (rather than pulling weed due to all the projects being completed beforehand)
Advice
You get to appreciate the grounds crew workers for any organization. I always thought keeping the campus clean was simple but it takes a lot of hard work to maintain the campus’ beauty. From keeping the campus clean to maintaining the athletic fields, it definitely changes your perspective on how important these facilities management employers are.
