Undergraduate Researcher

September 2018 - November 2020 • Potsdam, NY

What I liked

With Covid being new and scary it was nice being able to be able to participate in remote research. It was able to provide me with the opportunity to continue doing work and research while being able to remain isolated and safe.

What I wish was different

I wish that it wasn't a pandemic so I could have worked worked hands on in the lab like I had done the previous summer. While it was very rewarding to work remotely and explore those types of assignments, I find it more satisfying to be able to work hands on in the chemistry lab.

Advice

Stay determined. Things don't also work out on the first try, or second, or even third try. The only way to be able to really accomplish something is by keeping at it and trying again and again and again.

Research Assistant

May 2020 • Potsdam, NY

What I liked

I liked that I got to create something completely original using all of the knowledge I had gained through my studies and that the design was going to apply to the next several classes I was taking. It was really helpful in my final semester

What I wish was different

COVID... I wished this project was not done remotely and that I was able to start building the physical device I designed. Maybe after winter break if I'm lucky.

Advice

Attack it wholeheartedly, don't be afraid of taking a risk or making mistakes. It's still a learning process for everyone involved because unlike the problems in class, the solution hasn't been generated yet. That part is up to you.
