Global information security analyst

June - August 2018 • Irving, TX

What I liked

There's a lot of opportunities to network. There's also a lot of areas within gis to move around and find what best fits you. They have an awesome cafeteria and free gym on campus.

What I wish was different

Some people did not click well with their position or manager, so the matching system is sometimes flawed and people don't get an accurate experience.

Advice

They interview in September and October (2017) for summer (2018) etc, so make sure to get in early. Network and go to career fairs.

EO&T Leadership Development Program Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The network I created for myself at Citi was eager to see me learn and succeed in the program. I enjoyed that the EO&T LDP Summer Analysts were paired with EO&T LDP Full-Time Analysts for a Peer Mentorship Program in addition to being paired with a Senior Leader in EO&T for a Senior Mentorship Program. Weekly Lunch & Learn's were also helpful in discovering other opportunities in EO&T.

What I wish was different

Advice

You get out of this internship (and any other internship for that matter), what you put into it. Raise your hand and ask to learn more or do more.

Sales and Trading Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The location, having a big intern class, the compensation and housing

What I wish was different

The work/life balance, the timeline for recruiting

Advice

The early timelines for recruiting inhibited me from exploring other career options, so be sure to explore even after accepting an internship offer.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Long Island City, NY

What I liked

Rotational Program where I could experience strategy as well as software engineering.

What I wish was different

Didn’t think I had a great contribution as a software engineering intern based on the short time frame and lack of projects I could work on.

Advice

Not structured, but the people there care greatly about your own personal career trajectory and are willing to help you learn.

Analyst

July 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Working at Citi has been great. It is a very friendly and team-oriented environment. I have been given the opportunity to learn and a lot and make some meaningful contributions. Most people who work here are very approachable and willing to help and teach what they know.

What I wish was different

I wish that the training was more thorough. I feel like I learned a lot but there are still a lot of things about Citi and Treasury and Trade Solution (where I work) that I don’t understand and I’m having to learn on my own.

Advice

People at Citi are very willingness to help and answer your questions, but you must be proactive! Reach out to as many people as you can and try to network and get as much information from them as possible.

Finance Intern

June - August 2018 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed the fast paced nature of the work. I felt that i learned a lot about finance from a banking perspective and acquired great experience.

What I wish was different

I wish i would have had more exposure to a client-facing role.

Advice

It was an excellent opening to the world of wall street. Take as much initiative and opportunities possible. During an internship, think of ways that you can improve processes that the company currently utilizes to make it easier and ultimately shorten it. Don't be afraid to ask questions. It is the best way to understand something that you may not at first.

Corporate Intern

June - August 2018 • São Paulo, São Paulo

What I liked

I enjoyed applying the concepts that I was learning in class to the real professional world. I learned a lot about the professional environment and the expectations of an employee at a big bank. I also became familiar many financial and modeling concepts that I know will be applicable in future internships/jobs. I liked that I was able to further develop my excel and presentation skills.

What I wish was different

I wish I had known more about finance before coming in. I remember feeling very lost at the beginning because, as a freshman, I still had not taken any classes that truly prepared me for the type of work that I would be doing.

Advice

Be prepared to work long hours and put in the work. The more you dedicate yourself, the more you will learn and get out of the experience..

Summer analyst

June - August 2018 • Hong Kong, Hong Kong

What I liked

I really liked the platform and opportunity that Citi had. Working in Hong Kong was an incredible experience and I enjoyed both the division I worked in and team I worked with.

What I wish was different

In honesty, I initially took the role because I was told if I performed well I could potentially apply for an analyst position with CMO or IBD. That said, that opportunity in the end was not available and Citi in Hong Kong was not willing to help me find a position in the United States if I wanted to look for one.

Advice

In my opinion, if you take a Junior internship overseas in Hong Kong or London, prepare yourself to work full time in that region or location. If you do not think you will work overseas to begin your career, don't pursue it.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Getzville, NY

What I liked

I liked how helpful and open to talk everyone was. We did a few different intern projects as a group and that was a nice way to learn about other departments and learn about Citi overall. The environment is really awesome and open.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been placed in a department in my field of study. I was unsure of what I was actually going to be doing as an intern and would have liked to known what I was getting into.

Advice

Stay open and be positive. Talk to as many people as you can. Make appointments with anyone and everyone.
