What I liked

The associates and managers were very understanding and quick to answer questions. CBIZ provides a very welcoming environment and definitely cares a lot about its employees, including investing a lot in their interns. I enjoyed experiencing both tax and audit before deciding on tax for my career.

What I wish was different

Tax Intern

January 2018 • Purchase, NY

What I liked

Super nice people. Very understanding about classes and other commitments. Can work a lot of hours if you want. Very hands on and learned a lot.

What I wish was different

Wish that I had more choice over what I want to do (Audit versus tax). Interns are placed where they are needed.

Advice

You get out what you put in. If you show that you are responsible they will give you more interesting work.

Audit Intern

January - May 2019 • Jenkintown, PA

What I liked

I thought it was interesting learning about the different clients and what they did. One of the clients we traveled to was in Maryland and what the company did was make distinct kinds of seafood that we all got to try a day for lunch. Also, the Senior Auditors and Staff Auditors really were helpful and always answered my questions when I had one about different Auditing topics. Also, the Managers always sat down providing great one on one time and gave great advice on how you could improve on your work.

What I wish was different

I did not get a cubical and the laptop they had me use was not very up to date. They definitely need to upgrade their technology and along with that provide more comfortable working spaces for their interns.

Advice

This internship along with any other internship just do not be afraid to ask questions. If you do not ask questions, you are going to struggle learning. Believe me, the workers know that you do not know what you are doing and that it will take time to get good at the job. Go in with a positive attitude and always go above and beyond and trust me you will get noticed. I promise you that!

Marketing Intern

May 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I really liked the company culture and the relationship that all of the employees had with each other. They were all friends and got along really well, even hung out outside of work, but knew how to buckle down and get their work done when necessary.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish was different was that I had more work. Some days I would come into work and just not have a lot to work on, if anything.

Advice

Don't be afraid to speak up and ask your supervisor if you are interested in learning on something or working on something specific.

Forensic Senior Associate

June - August 2023 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

I would say the only positive experience I had was the competitive salary compared to other firms.

What I wish was different

One of the most toxic work environments I have ever experienced. Director consistently made misogynistic remarks about employees and clients. Poor communication from managers. Was told during the interview process that I would have a flexible hybrid schedule and after I started, was in office Monday - Friday. Days I had to WFH, I was reprimanded for. Definitely felt like I was being parented rather than having a mentor. Once I told HR about my experience and how the staff was being treated, I was discharged the next day - Huge red flag. Best comparison I can relate the office environment to is the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Advice

0/10 - Don't recommend

What I liked

1. Great staff 2. Hands-on Technical Tax experience 3. Client Interactions 4. Mentor ship Program

What I wish was different

I would've loved to have had more client facing opportunities to see how partners and managers handle difficult situations and problem solve.

Advice

My internship became more meaningful when I established a strong relationship with my coworkers (intern buddies) and with the upper level staff. One piece of advice I have is to remember names. Just adding their name after saying "Goodmorning ________" goes a long way.
