Undergraduate Research Assistant

May - August 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I liked how the experience allowed me to learn more about math research, especially since I come from a background where my perception of research is biology/chemistry related.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more structure in the program. Our research advisor switched up meeting locations/times and the research question halfway through the summer.

Advice

Research isn't for everybody. It's something that you'll either really really enjoy or something that you dread. Regardless of how much you like it, you can always benefit from doing research in your field of study! The material covered in research go much farther than what is often taught in courses, especially since you can dive deeper into topics.

What I wish was different

Advice

Chase opportunities like this that make you stretch yourself, challenge yourself and your abilities, and don't let yourself be limited by life circumstances and position. We are much more capable than we think we are. We just have to choose to believe it and act.
