I enjoyed being able to see a real world application of the concepts I have learned in school.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to carry it out throughout the year, but it was only a summer internship.
Advice
Summer internships are a great way to gain experience and meet people in your field.

Engineering Intern in Portable Emissions Measurement Systems Program
July - August 2018 • El Monte, CA
What I liked
What I most liked about the internship was the hands-on experience, and experience in different fields I received. Not only did I get the chance to help install the PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurements Systems) Equipment onto actual test cars, I also got the chance to interpret real data, and troubleshoot for possible sensor inaccuracies. This and my working alongside professionals in this field helped me to gain a better understanding of the big picture as well as intricate yet important details.
What I wish was different
Unfortunately, I interned at a not-so-busy time for the division. This was a good environment to get started in, but towards the end there was simply not enough work for me to do. I would imagine this would change, however, if I had started at a different time.
Advice
This experience taught me not to hesitate to ask questions, which I feel is good internship advice in general. Me constantly asking questions accelerated my learning---and I was only there for about a month and a half.
In other words, your learning is directly related to how much effort you put in to the internship.
