AVB was formed in 1981 by Joe Gesmundo and Daryl Rynd. Daryl was a carpenter known for his focus on quality and his attention to detail. Joe was a developer devoted to creating first-rate developments integrated with nature. Together, the principals collaborated on the Kalamazoo area’s premier master-planned community – Woodbridge Hills. This visionary mixed-use community includes a retail center, medical and surgical buildings, office buildings, condominiums and upscale private residences and a private golf course.
Today AVB is a leading regional construction and development firm, offering expertise in both residential and commercial new construction, major remodeling projects, and real estate development.
AVB’s construction portfolio includes the Western View on-campus student housing at Western Michigan University, the Brain and Spine Institute and, the Stryker Center at Borgess Medical Center, the Stryker Corporation World Headquarters, Portage Northern High School and the 12th Street Elementary School. Significant renovation projects include the Green Building of America Award-winning Educational Community Credit Union on 9th Street, the newly-opened Cole Nissan dealership in Kalamazoo, Borgess at Woodbridge Hills, Keyser Insurance Agency, and the Ignertia Building brownfield redevelopment project in downtown Kalamazoo.
AVB’s development portfolio includes over three-quarters of a billion dollars’ worth of projects in Southwest Michigan.
