Support Engineer

June 2018 • Alpharetta, GA

What I liked

I liked that it was a hands-on experience. I was treated as a full-time employee when working. I worked 30 to 40 hours a week and did the same tasks as my full-time colleagues. This opportunity helped me learn a lot of real-life skills. It helped me grow professionally and taught me time management. I was juggling full-time employment as well as a full-time college student.

What I wish was different

The internship had training that was a month-long, but it could be noted that better guidance could be needed when starting after training. They had their own UI language that I was helping solving tickets on, but since there were so many products, no one truly learned all of them well. It was more of solving tickets and helping customers and moving on rather than learning the language. I learned a lot of industry skills, but I would have wished there was more time to learn all the skills thoroughly.

Advice

A piece of advice for this internship is to be organized. Keeping a planner is a great way to keep you organized with all the work you have to do. Time management is key in making sure all your schoolwork gets completed between work hours and classes.

What I liked

I liked that I got to work with people from around the globe I got to work full time in a corporate setting, so I got to learn about the corporate environment I also liked how much work I had, it kept me busy and taught me about the tech industry

What I wish was different

Perhaps if there were people closer to my age and if I could have worked full time more a little bit longer. I was only able to work full time due to college.

Advice

If you can learn new skills on the fly, do it! Don't be afraid to fake it till you make it, because learning on the job ,in my opinion, is the best way to learn. For instance, in this internship I had to learn how to write in a business style, something I have never done before. But I did it!

Marketing and Communications Intern

June - September 2018 • Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg

What I liked

It was my first job and was quite a hands-on internship where I was assigned many tasks to assist my team, I was not just doing side work and felt like I really contributed to internal employee relations. The wide variety of tasks was also challenging at the same time it was fun!

What I wish was different

There were specific details in the resources used at the company I thought were a little bit outdated, such as computer software or access to additional resources, given that it was one of the leading enterprise software companies.

Advice

I think that it really made me feel as if I could apply what I learned not just in an internship but one abroad, where I was not very familiar with the customs or traditions of that country but still could produce good results or build connections.

Sales Operations Intern

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Management was fully engaged with the interns like nothing I have ever witnessed. Every employee genuinely cares about your development and you are exposed to learning about the software in a very practical way.

What I wish was different

Not much honestly. It is very difficult to beat this experience. If anything, more frequent conference calls with my direct boss even though we talked every Monday.

Advice

Take advantage of EVERY opportunity, meaning having lunch with as many employees as possible (including meeting with the CMO and the president of one of the cloud companies like I did). All employees are open to discuss almost everything in the NYC office that I was in, so go into the internship with networking being a key activity to try to nail down. Other than that, SAP is a huge company, if you are a business intern then learning about the software is 2nd priority. Take the time to actually learn software and what the company is about on their Jam page. Other than that, ask as many questions a possible. Be a sponge and milk the experience as much as you can.
