What I liked

A wonderful mission and the people you work with really have their heart in it. You frequently meet new people within the team, the community and develop relationships with a better understanding of this college town and surrounding Humboldt County. I've been able to help supply food to an elderly man with a stroke, people escaping domestic abuse and traveling Spanish and French coming to California. Working in a non-profit helping feed people is an enriching experience that has made me more understanding and open minded to people of all situations and backgrounds.

What I wish was different

I only wish more younger college aged people would get involved. It's often that retired community members will volunteer but it's rare to see younger people. I know my own friends focus on their career goals but I do believe that volunteering better develops you and gives you interpersonal skills that will heavily valued in the work force.

Advice

You really don't know other people or yourself fully until we need help. It's vital that we have support services for our communities and I'm grateful for being able to help and have these experiences. Time is never wasted when volunteering.
