District Manager

June - August 2018 • Akron, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the aspect of being an HR manager for the store staff and getting an opportunity to develop them and watch them grow.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've done more research and I would've know that the work wasn't in my area of interest (supply chain).

Advice

Try an internship where you can develop and display your leadership skills. It will help in your future career.

The amount of responsibility I was trusted with and professionalism of the company culture

What I wish was different

More rotation around Columbia stores instead of around all of South Carolina and North Carolina

Advice

Stay positive throughout the entire internship - especially during the in store phase and you will enjoy your time a lot more, also get to know the employees in your store! They're all amazing people

District Manager Intern

June - August 2017 • Webberville, MI

What I liked

You get a full, hands-on experience in operations. You are not doing easy tasks. You take initiative and are helping make decisions for millions of dollars in business. You get to be professional and work as a district manager, but you also get to work in store for 3 weeks to learn about the issues that the people you're managing face.

What I wish was different

I knew going into the internship this would be a demanding job, so I wouldn't have changed anything about the internship. If anything, I would tell myself to be forgiving of myself, because being a great manager doesn't happen overnight and that's why you're in the intern roll, to learn.

Advice

Be ready to work. Be ready to give input. And be ready to make a difference. Aldi doesn't want to be inefficient, slow, or average. They want the best for their customers and employees, and training everyone in the company to work hard and desire the best for one another is how they achieve that goal.

District Manager Intern

May - July 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed the people I got to work with everyday as well as the responsibility that came with this internship. From day one I was given responsibilities that most undergraduates do not get to have. I helped run interviews, ran cash audits, as well as being given a project to be completed directly from the Director of Operations. The in-store portion truly helps you to understand their operations as a whole.

What I wish was different

Sometimes due to scheduled vacations/time off you switch around Peer Advisors more than I would have liked to.

Advice

It is a great way to truly get into the full running of a retail industry with great people around you. I would suggest this to any major trying to determine if they want to eventually end up in a management position.

District Manager Intern

June - August 2018 • South Windsor, CT

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to have real responsibilities with my internship. By the end, I was trusted with audits, interviews, inventory process , and more. The amount of exposure and experience you receive is unmatched anywhere else.

What I wish was different

Exploring other locations would have been interesting !

Advice

Make the most of it and put in a lot of effort. This internship can give you so many valuable skills in finance, operations and management. In addition, you develop your leadership and communication skills as you work with real District Managers to develop store managers and the stores. Any major can apply and succeed. I highly recommend applying!
