Aldi Associate

May 2018 • Rice Lake, WI

What I liked

The shifts would start early in the morning and I liked how I could still work a full ten hour shift and still be done by 3 in the afternoon. My management team was very helpful in learning when I first started and still continue to be amazing coworkers at the Aldi I am employed at. I also liked how team oriented this job is. I would work on individual projects, but everything is team based.

What I wish was different

I wish the scheduling had been evenly distributed between workers. Many coworkers who are good at stocking and throwing truck pallets in the morning would be scheduled mornings all the time. It is efficient to do it this way, but sometimes is not fair when comparing job tasks to the afternoon and closing workers.

Advice

Be prepared to learn a lot in the first month working at Aldi. It is hard and tough work but once you learn it all, it just becomes a natural process at work. Also be prepared to work fast and try not to become overwhelmed during a shift, this gets much easier after the first month.

What I wish was different

I wish training would have been a little more in depth. I felt like when I left the training store, I wasn't fully equipped to deal with the pressure of this job right away.

Distribution Manager Intern

June - August 2018 • Royal Palm Beach, FL

What I liked

I enjoyed every part of the internship. The fact that it is very hands on and it allows you to take on various projects with autonomy is nice. It lets you learn from your mistakes and find out what works best for yourself.

What I wish was different

Only thing I wish was different was the in store phase to have experienced a little bit more of the management side.

Advice

Become comfortable with the idea that not only will you be handed important projects and issues to deal with at an early stage. But to expect failure, and problems to come your way and to learn how to cope with them to eventually find a solution rather than simply accepting the failure or issue itself.

District Manager Intern

May - August 2018 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I got to work in a middle level management job super early in my career. Because of this, I have so much to put on my resume from supply chain, HR, financials, etc.

What I wish was different

I worked 50-60 hours every week and a lot of that was on the weekends. I didn't have much of a summer and was always tired because of the odd hours.

Advice

The internship will teach you a lot and is worth it but don't expect to be able to make an impact or that the company cares about much more than profit. I suggest for a 10 week program but not a career.
