The United States Air Force mission is impressive: Fly, Fight and Win… in Air, Space, and Cyberspace. Fulfilling that mission requires the skills, talents, and commitment of more than 300,000 active duty Airmen. It also takes more than 180,000 civilians.
That's us – the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS). We don't wear uniforms or have military service obligations, but we do work side by side with active duty Airmen to provide every kind of support service needed to fulfill that Air Force mission.
We provide support in every profession imaginable: scientists, engineers, contract specialists, teachers, intelligence experts, mechanics, human resources professionals, and much, much more.
The United States Air Force has requirements for everything from satellites, electronics, and high-performance aircraft to supplies and services necessary for the day-to-day operation of military installations around the world, with an annual budget of ~$140 billion dollars.
Contract Specialists are responsible for planning, negotiating, obligating, and administering the contracts for these purchases, with the end goal of obtaining the best technologies possible at a price that is fair and reasonable to both the defense contractor and the American taxpayer.
