Physicist I- Health Physics

We are looking for a dynamic team member to join our Medical Health Physics group as a Physicist I. The Medical Health Physics service provides guidance and oversight to users of radioactive material and devices that produce radiation at all MSK locations to facilitate ongoing compliance with applicable institutional and regulatory requirements for the safe and effective application of radiation in patient care, research, and education. Collaborate with researchers, Medical Physicists, Physicians, Radiologists, Nurses and the entire cancer care and research institution as you embark in a career in Health Physics. 

 

You Will: 

  • Implement various aspects of the radiation protection program in a cancer care and research environment. 
  • Assist in educating staff and workers on radiation safety procedures. 
  • Assist in surveying radiation areas and evaluating radiation levels. 
  • Perform radiation surveys in research and clinical laboratories using radiation and radioactive materials, under general supervision. 
  • Measure radiation exposure levels on patients receiving radioactive material for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. 
  • Calculate results and specify radiation precaution parameters for medical staff and patients' families. 
  • Counsel patients and families on radiation precautions, according to departmental guidelines. 
  • Implement the dosimetry monitoring program. Receiving, distributing, shipping to vendor and processing new requests for monitors. 
  • Inspect and inventory leaded garments. 
  • Perform radioactive waste surveys and prepare packaging for shipment and disposal.  
  • Assist Pathology staff with samples, specimens and waste containing radioactive materials. 
  • Perform tasks associated with radiation safety special projects, such as emergency preparedness and characterizing radiation levels. 
  • Assist in documenting patient radiation safety information, area monitoring results, shipping and transfers of radioactive material, sealed sources and waste monitor calibrations. 
  • Maintain databases including patient radiation data, radiation instrumentation, dosimetry and inventory. 
  • Record and maintain all paper/electronic files in an organized manner and generate or retrieve reports as needed. 
  • Be available to respond to emergency calls off-hours as necessary and in accordance with departmental procedures. 

You Need:

  • Bachelor’s in Health Physics, Physics, another natural science, or relevant degree 
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work with database management software, statistical and graphic applications and online systems. 
  • Analytical skills with the ability to systematically approach problems and propose creative solutions consistent with an appropriate methodology. 
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills with SharePoint knowledge desirable.

Pay Range $73,900.00-$114,400.00
