Business Intern

January - July 2019 • Albuquerque, NM

What I liked

Everyone there is extremely kind and generous. The office environment is like that of a large family; always free food in the break room, friendly and professional camaraderie, and no stress whatsoever. You'll learn a lot about what their business does and its operations and there are some opportunities to be assigned a more sophisticated role in the company. Extremely flexible with your schedule, as long as you communicate your scheduling professionally.

What I wish was different

The work starting out isn't too sophisticated. It's mostly scanning at first. It's good pay for just scanning, but if you want to do more, you have to be looking for other responsibilities you could take on. Don't be afraid to ask for more, because they would listen to you and accommodate you.

Advice

Zia Trust is a great place to work. Although the pay isn't marvelous and the work isn't always super engaging, the mentorship opportunities, networking connections, and fantastic office environment are 100% worth it. Their goals for the internship program are very centered around your individual learning and development. Many other internships care solely about your contributions to the company and don't care as much about your professional growth. If you get hired here, it's important that you don't take these luxuries for granted. The accommodations they make for mere interns are priceless. Be respectful and professional and your time with them will be great.
