Advice
The AmeriCorps-funded Summer Bridge Program at UMKC offers at-risk students an avenue for compassionate and dedicated mentoring via interns like myself, and a route to obtain 6 credit hours to begin their studies. The most important piece of advice I can give is to remain compassionate - not every student will be familiar with the privileges you hold.

Jumpstart Coach
April - October 2020 • Cedar Rapids, IA
What I liked
How interactive and caring the environment was with not just myself but for all of the individuals involved. I liked that it taught me a lot about who I am as a person and who I would like to be.
What I wish was different
I wish we had more time with the group and was able to expand our internship and affect more people throughout our community.
Advice
Do it until you can't. It is one of the most eye opening experiences and most morally fulfilling jobs that any person could ever have. This internship will surely leave you at home at night feeling like you made an impact today.
