Young 1ove

Communication intern

June - July 2018 • Gaborone, Gaborone

What I liked

The most amazing experience with Young 1ove was, when I assisted the facilitators through the process of implementing the Teaching at the Right Level program with the students. I did a series of interviews and wrote the testimonies of the progress of the program. I liked how I was included in the ice breakers with the facilitators during their trainings and also when we went to the schools.

What I wish was different

I don’t think I would change much about my experience. I could recommend to just have a day by day help since we came in the middle of the program’s implementation. It was a busy time to sit down to explain everything, but just having more time to understand how everything was to be delivered.

Advice

I would say, go with an open mind. Be ready to take as much as you can to help the process. It was a learning experience for me to come in and just give my best as I tried to catch the whole pace of the agency. Take advantage of all the staffs’ help when they are available to help you. I was a communication intern, in charge of helping my supervisor with interview, photography and writing blog posts. Research is something that I had to do in order to best write my blog posts, but it is important to ask questions. Do not act like you know , even if you do, just ask to be precise. Be open to the culture and embrace it. Give your best and enjoy the learning moments.
