York College, CUNY

College Assistant

July - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I was able to work in a real office setting alongside experienced co-workers. I was able to meet a few people who have work around my field of study and I was even able to obtain contact information for reference or networking opportunities.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay-cycle was more consistent and on time. I was paid, but my payments were delayed by a month.

Advice

This internship is good Communications majors and great for Sports Management majors. For anyone who plans to take this internship, be ready for unexpected tasks that might take a long time and get to know your co-workers as you will learn a lot from them and you will be working with everyone, not just the few people you are placed with. These people can also be the "foot in the door" you might need in the future. The work place is also a very serious, but very relaxed environment so don't worry about the stress to impress. If you can work in a calm place, are open to meeting people in person as well as over phone/email, and are willing to take on whatever work you are given, you should be fine.
