Wish it could have continued into the next year but I accepted a job in Pocatello, Idaho.

Day Camp Coordinator

What I liked

I liked working with the kids, and I loved my coworkers. The location was amazing and I got to do and see some really amazing things. We played lots of fun games, and went on amazing field trips and I got to see kids grow and change over the course of the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more training and instruction. I was often told to just figure things out and that there was no other way to learn how to do the job than just wing it and I felt that was untrue. The leadership could have been more helpful. We lived and ate at a stay away camp and often there would not be food for us to eat.

Advice

Definitely don't expect it to be simple or easy. Know taking a moment to think before you react to things the kids do or say is important, and know that the people in charge might not understand totally what you need so be direct and tell them what you need and remind them often if it does not happen. Don't think that it is going to just sort itself out.
