What I liked

I loved every part of being a camp counselor from working with children and leading different activities to being disconnected from technology and focused on nature.

What I wish was different

Since it was an overnight camp I was with my campers at all times for two months apart from a weekly day and night off. Because of this and our lack of technology usage it was hard to do work and find other opportunities during the summer. If I could change anything about my experience, I would devote more of my time off to developing future plans.

Advice

This was my third summer as a counselor and I keep returning as I clearly love it. I would say that returning to camp to be a counselor was a great way to de-stress after your first year in college, but I'm planning on pursuing other opportunities at least for this upcoming summer.

Residential Camp Senior Counselor

What I liked

I grew up going to camp here so it was a perfect way of giving back to the place that gave me so much. I loved being the role model for kids and being their for them during some of their formative experiences.

What I wish was different

I wish I did not get sick, as I would have been able to give even more of myself to the job. I also wish that my activity area was given a little more slack because we have such a different job than the rest of the staff members.

Advice

It is such a fun summer experience and I would recommend this job to anyone. This was my third year on staff, and I will forever love this place. If you are interested, make sure you are certain you can give your whole self to this job as it is tiring physically and emotionally. Make sure to take care of yourself but also enjoy the amazing summer.

Everything! The staff was amazing and so were the kids

What I wish was different

I wish i could have had more time for myself, but it’s understandable that i didnt since we are always on duty with the kids

Its totally worth it, but if you do it all summer you need to take it day by day.

What I liked

i liked the relationship i had with my coworkers and the kids as well as being outside for the majority of the day.

What I wish was different

i wish a few co workers werent working with me and that we were paid a little more

Advice

Walk in with no expectations because if you have high standards they will not always be met. make sure the decision of where you are working is the best for you and not others, youre the one thats spending time, not them.
