I had the opportunity to direct over 150 staff members in planning schedules and creating evening programs for over 400 campers. I got the opportunity to be creative in making plot lines and objectives for campers to complete and I got to work as a director for my peers and learn how to give direction to people my own age and even older than me.
What I wish was different
I did struggle to initially go about giving direction and reprimanding my peers. Learning to be the 'bad guy" can definitely be a hurdle that one must learn to navigate which was certainly not easy.
Advice
I think working at summer camp is an invaluable experience that gives students the opportunity to learn life and work skills that could not be picked up working an internship in an office setting.
