I absolutely loved working the Summer program, SACC (school aged child care). I worked with kids in grades kindergarten to 5th grade. They were long, 10 hour days but it was worth every second. I made some great connections with kids and will always remember a lot of them and their names. It’s incredible the kind of impact you can have on a child in such a short span of time.
What I wish was different
I wish I could still be working there!
Advice
I would say to always be positive. Leave your problems at home, the kids pick up on your negative attitude more than you’d think! If you want them to have an awesome summer, it’s important you you do everything you can to make that happen!

Summer Camp Counselor
May - August 2019 • Yorktown, VA
What I liked
The best part about my job this summer was the children that I built relationships with. My main goal with this job was to impact these children in a positive and memorable way.
What I wish was different
The only thing I wish was different was the people I worked with. It was very unorganized and I was not paid a lot for all that I was responsible for.
Advice
My only advice is when you have the platform to impact a group of children, take the advantage and make sure these kids have someone to look up to positively that will change their life because they are the future.

Summer Camp Counselor
June - August 2019 • Fairless Hills, PA
What I liked
I loved working hand in hand with my fellow camp counselors to create and enforce a safe and fun environment for the children. We were able to work together to create different weekly programs and activities for the children, and form close bonds with each other, the children, and their parents.
What I wish was different
Ideally, to have all of our ideas executed to their fullest ability, we needed supplies. I would have loved if we had access to more supplies consistently.
Advice
You definitely need patience when you work in a camp, especially one with younger children. However, you also have to make sure that your patience carries over to your coworkers, bosses, and, most importantly, parents of the campers.

Camp Counselor
May - August 2019 • Racine, WI
What I liked
I like getting to know the campers and how I had different kids each week. They taught me to smile no matter what and if you fall to just get back up and start playing again.
What I wish was different
I wish the time I had with my campers lasted longer and didn’t go by as quickly as it did.
Advice
It’s very stressful each and every day to take care of a bunch of children but in the end it’s very rewarding and worth it.
