Wyndham Hotels & Resorts

Marketing Intern

May - July 2019 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

Nothing

What I wish was different

I wish they had been more honest about the position. I was told that it would be an internship with where I would get experience marketing Wyndham as a whole. In reality, I was meant to sell timeshares to individuals. I also wish there had been even minimal involvement from managers, but we were left on our own most of the time.

Advice

Check glassdoor to determine if the job is worth the money.

Hotel Guest Service Agent

September - November 2020 • Wheeling, IL

What I liked

The interactions I had with guests and getting to understand the type of personalities of guests, that's my reason to continue within the hospitality industry, to help out people to the best of my abilities and make them happy

What I wish was different

Instead of just one person working solo, there would be another Front Desk Agent with me to help the flow of service through the rest of the morning/night along with no laundry since it was too much to be asked to do

Advice

The one piece of advice which I should've listened to is to explore other opportunities and to not be pressured into choosing the first thing that comes your way, I disliked my experience working here and wish I could've gone someplace else, but I'm happy to be finished and will remember for next time that I don't have to pick the first thing thrown my way

Was given the opportunity to take part in projects that had real, visible impact on the international tax team. Didn’t feel useless. Learned a ton

What I wish was different

Would’ve loved to have more training, and a structured mentorship.

Advice

The more experiences the better. It helps clear the fog and convince you of what you want out of your career, and what you want to avoid.

Night Auditor

December 2018 • Las Cruces, NM

What I liked

Great management, brand new hotel systems, plus you gain a very great skill in the matters of the hotel business that could definitely come in handy in the future

What I wish was different

The system being new had it's faults but nothing worth hating

Advice

Any job in the hotel industry is great to have on a resume because employers as my manager mentioned would rather have that experience rather than schooling if you're going into hotels of course.

Dining Room Host/Hostess

June - August 2019 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I liked working with new people. My co-workers were great people!

What I wish was different

The management was very spotty. There were 3 different managers and one top manager so most of the time the top manager would not tell anyone else his descisions on some things. Also I didn't like that the schedules were posted on wednesdays because it is so hard for me to adjust too and it made me anxious about when I was going to work because it was different every week.

Marketing Inter

June - August 2018 • Anaheim, CA

What I liked

I liked the exposure to the real world. Also, I was able to interact with co-workers from all life stages, which I really appreciated.

What I wish was different

I wished the job description would have been more specific about what this internship actually entails. The job description didn't align well with what I actually accomplished.

Advice

Marketing tends to fall into sales as well, so it can be commission based.
