Worcester Education Collaborative

Hanover Fellow

What I liked

I loved the connections that I made within the WEC and OOST programs in Worcester. They were able to provide help and resources when there were times I had questions or concerns regarding my service with the kids. The kids were great and, not to be cliche, probably taught me the most. I was able to apply my love for being an educator with my psychology knowledge from school that I could finally apply to real life.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more communication between the WEC and the site I worked at. The Guild employees were not sure what I was there for and this often led to some scraggly interactions regarding my role in the classroom.

Advice

I would say to take initiative when working with the WEC admin, let them know when things are going well or need work - don't always wait for them to reach out.

What I liked

I really cherish the supportive work culture at WEC. All of my team members encourage me to take on new projects that allow me to express my creativity and develop new skills. I have been welcomed onto the team as a valued individual and I graduated in June 2021 with a profound sense of confidence in myself.

What I wish was different

At the beginning of my internship, I should have tracked my progress more diligently. This would have benefited my resume development skills as well as my ability to demonstrate impact. Only last year I started to learn more about the value of tracking my projects and their progress.

Advice

Be passionate about your career, personal, and academic interests in a way that sparks a genuine connection with your team members.
