Woodloch Resort

Culinary Intern

May 2021 • Hawley, PA

What I liked

I liked the communication in the kitchen of knowing who to go to in order to find your next task. I also loved the hours because in most restaurants you get out after midnight so 9:30 isn't bad at all. The staff in the kitchen were mostly awesome and welcoming. They are fast to "promote" you to different tasks, depending on your work ethic of course. You won't be stuck on salads your whole internship which is a major win. The food you get to eat in the kitchen is a plus too.

What I wish was different

The communication of administrative staff should've been a lot better in terms of providing contacts to students living on property for internship. I was there for 2 days not knowing who to call or where to go or when to start. The one contact I was given wouldn't answer. It was very nerve-wracking. The work that I did also wasn't work that I could continue to develop my culinary skills with and that's the major reason I left. Not much is from scratch.

Advice

If you were to work at Woodloch Resort for an internship, I wouldn't recommend living on property. Commuting is the way to go if you live nearby as the housing is not cleaned prior to your arrival, very secluded in the woods and about an hour away by car from any essentials. My last advice is for any that are going for culinary, it is very much like working a school cafeteria rather than working on any skills from labs so be prepared.
