Win Without War

Campaigns and Programs Intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Win Without War is an amazing organization to work with. The office culture is supportive and friendly, everyone pushes each other to grow and helps each other improve. I never felt like "just an intern," but felt like a member of the team who was given the opportunity to take initiative and lead the projects I was interested in which were valuable to the organization. There was plenty of room for professional development and staff encouraged interns to pursue things they were interested in.

What I wish was different

I ended up working cross-programmatically with the communications department, which I really enjoyed. I would have liked to work with the advocacy department a bit more as well.

Advice

Because it's such a small organization, this internship is very self-driven and is what you make of it. Be flexible and creative! There will be days where not a lot is happening just because of the way the legislative and news cycles work, these will be good days to work on your own projects and things that interest you. There will also be days where it feels like you're going non-stop and you're doing exciting things.
