What I liked

I loved working with a team that I could provide one-on-one mentoring to. As a team, we were able to drastically increase the quality of our service. We were able to see the fruits of our efforts in the quality and efficiency of the program and the lives of those we worked with each day.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have learned to rely on my team earlier on. Being a manager/director does not mean that have to do everything by myself, but that's what I did in the beginning.

Advice

The piece of advice I would share from this experience is to trust the team that you have hired. Let them do their jobs. If they are not doing a good job, don't take over and try to do your job and theirs, just give them some coaching and mentoring.
