July - September 2019 • Hillsboro, OR

What I liked

Whole Foods has a culture of sustainability and giving back to the community, which made me feel good about working for them. I also really enjoyed how friendly the people who work there are! They were super welcoming, and I made good friends during my time there.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been there long enough to utilize there volunteerism programs. For people who have worked at Whole Foods for at least 6 months, they have the opportunity to travel and do community service for through the Whole Foods charity foundations.

Advice

It's important to be able to make friends wherever you go. It's not always possible, but it makes life so much easier to enjoy the people you're around. It's also a better environment to work in when you trust all of your coworkers and managers to be looking out for you.

June 2018 - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I loved the team I got to be a part of and I loved getting to learn so many new skills. This job allowed me to build my resume and develop versatile skills.

What I wish was different

I wish that my requests to deal with a problem team member would've been taken more seriously. I went to upper management because she was making my work environment uncomfortable, but I really didn't see a lot of repercussions for her, which is disappointing because it took a lot of courage to tell someone what was happening.

Advice

I think the best advice I can give is to be open to any opportunity. Yes, I sliced bread, made chantilly, and packaged tons of desserts, but the job was way more than that. I learned how to communicate better, gained more confidence, learned how to work on a team and really grew from a job I didn't even think much of

What I wish was different

I wish I could have bonded more with upper management. They were great bosses but I hardly saw them.

Advice

To always be open to trying new things, whether it being foods, people, or experiences.

Specialty Department

May - August 2019 • Reston, VA

What I liked

As someone pursuing a field that will require a lot of people skills, this job reinforced a social aspect and allowed for working in busy environments whilst emphasizing multitasking. This isn’t a job that will mirror my degree works, however, it did teach me versatility and adaptability.

What I wish was different

I would have enjoyed a little more stability/consistency (as the job duties fluctuated), however, this skill will carry over into my life experiences.

Advice

To keep an open mind when you take on jobs of any kinds. I was reluctant, at first, to take this job as I wanted to start searching for internships and other relevant jobs to my degree. However, I was able to network through this job and meet people that offered me outside jobs that do pertain to my bachelors. You should always keep an open mind with part-time jobs - they may just put you into the most unlikely hands!

What I liked

I was able to meet new people everyday and the learn the basics of responsibility, work ethics, and job related materials.

What I wish was different

I wish the environment was better. Many of the employees didn't seem to be at their ideal job. Being a part time worker, I didn't see this job as my lifetime career, but some people didn't have another option.

Advice

I would advise that everyone should acquire a job if they haven't already. It is an excellent way to learn basically work ethics and the importance of starting a responsible life early.
