What I liked

Amazing first hand experience working in a special education setting! Specifically, I learned how to manage a variety of behaviors, which I can easily apply to my classroom. This position also taught me how to create a safe and welcoming classroom for students, which is not something you can directly learn from a book. Therefore, this experience was amazing for me as a future educator.

What I wish was different

Due to staffing shortages, there were some days I had to cover for my colleagues, which made me feel overwhelmed. However, that could happen at any job and taught me how to balance the job in an effective manner.

Advice

A teacher must be patient and flexible!

What I liked

I enjoyed working with the children. I also liked the days and hours. Since it was for a summer school program, it was Monday-Friday from 8-2.

What I wish was different

More activities in the summer.

Advice

Cooperation with teachers and staff are very important and a lot of them have a lot of knowledge that they love to share if you ask. If you ever need help there are plenty of people to ask.
