What I liked

I worked as a float teller, and since West Michigan Community Bank (WMCB) is a small local bank, I worked at all six branches and was able to experience many different facets of the company through that. I appreciated how invested they were in the community. The tellers and personal bankers knew their customers well, and were often asking about their families and things at home. I learned a great deal about personal finance, investments and loan management, which has served me well in advising others with their finances, and also for myself as I grow my financial base and as I steward as a college student with limit resources.

What I wish was different

There isn't much I wish was different. There is a lot of room to move up in the company and a fantastic culture of encouragement.

Advice

There are a lot of details to banking, so don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. It's better to be thorough than to be speedy with money. Always be asking for more responsibilities and opportunities to learn. Caring for customer's finances can also be a sensitive subject for some. I learned a lot about how to be professional with customers - successful business owners and struggling families alike - and how to treat them with dignity and respect.
