Wealth and Investment Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Alexandria, VA

What I liked

It was a great starting internship. There was a structured process and training that was provided to all the interns. For someone who didn't have that much experience in financial management, it was a great way to get your feet wet. The FAs were willing to give the interns projects that they would benefit from and answer any questions they may have.

What I wish was different

There was a good amount of downtime, I wish there was more concrete projects for interns, instead of administrative tasks to help out on.

Advice

Ask questions! Financial advisors are really busy, but will be happy to answer questions related the the job and share their experiences.

Wealth and Investment Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Century City, CA

What I liked

The program has a strict curriculum they want you to learn, but anything outside of that, depending on your branch, they give good flexibility to give you experience in an area you are interested in. For me, I was taught how to utilize asset allocation and efficient frontiers in the context of portfolio building and management.

Wealth and Investment Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Alexandria, VA

What I liked

Great starting internship. The program was very structured and focused on the professional development of the intern. Had the opportunity to go to headquarters in St. Louis, MI.

What I wish was different

More things for interns to do in the office. Sometimes I had a lot of free time because financial advisors were really busy and did not have time to teach me everything or give me work.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Even though they were busy, financial advisors really enjoyed my curiosity.

What I liked

I got a lot of field experience and got to work with numerous investment groups and learn their techniques and practices.

What I wish was different

I wish there was less interaction with the other interns nationally and that we got to work even more in the branch.

Advice

Absorb as much info as possible.

Wealth and Investment Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Houston, TX

What I liked

Everyone was invested in the interns learning experience. Everyone, even the head of Financial Advisors for WFA, spoke with the interns and genuinely wanted to network with us.

What I wish was different

It was their first time having interns in my branch, so at times we had to find our own things to do or do our own research (which is almost a given in any internship).

Advice

Be a sponge, everyone in every position has had experiences you have not. No matter what level of the organization, they can teach you something valuable.
