Wegmans Food Markets

Maintenance Engineer Co-op

August - December 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

Amazing people that pushed me to improve myself throughout my experience at Wegmans. Had weekly performance reviews to catch up my supervisor on my projects and to help me with my skill improvements.

What I wish was different

Was a very slow start. Took weeks to get any big projects.

Advice

Be prepared to ask questions about WHY you are doing a project for someone. Find out the root cause of problems to find the best solution, not just what people ask you to do.

maintenance Intern

June - December 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

Everyone was extremely nice and patient when it came to explaining tasks and projects. Everyday workers would walk by just to talk and get to know you and how they can help you with projects or to see if you have time to assist them with a project.

What I wish was different

Sometimes the work load was a little slow and I found myself looking for work to do.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions.

Pharmacy Technician

March 2016 • Niagara Falls, NY

What I liked

I love the people that I work with and enjoy the challenges that come along with my position. Being an accounting major, this position never fails to make me think! Also, the connections that I’ve made with some customers are one of a kind. I feel so rewarded and fulfilled in what I do.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to ease up on myself when I could not figure something out at work. I would take it kind of hard if something really stumped me.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share is to never give up. I know it’s clique, but this job will always be difficult. It certainly is not a mindless job! It will take time to become comfortable in the pharmacy environment.

What I liked

I liked the new experience. I had worked in a different department before and was able to train in bakery over the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had better knowledge as to what the job would be. I wasn't sure what to expect, so it made it difficult at first to get adjusted.

Advice

Some advice would be to take a chance to try something new. At first I was worried about stepping out of my comfort zone, but it paid off in the end.

Web Applications Developer

June 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

Throughout this Co-Op, I've overcome and been through both personal and professional growth. Professionally, I've learned to how the culture of a company can change the motivation, happiness, and performance of an employee. For my career path, I've learned it's essential that you must get along with your team on a personal and professional level where you feel respected and where you fit in. I've also realized how important it is to focus on an individuals strengths and to assign someone what they're skilled and passionate for. This will bring out the most for an employee, and in my case I focused more heavily on aspects which are considered more web design based, which made me learn more through research, and gave me something to work towards. I've learned a lot personally as well by figuring out what I'm passionate about and where I want to end up working after graduation. Working at Wegmans as a Web Developer has helped me realize where I want to go and to be around a culture as healthy as the one I am in now.

What I wish was different

Throughout this Co-Op assignment, I've also been through both personal and professional negative experiences. One of these were my professional experiences and wanting to dive deeper from a development/workload standpoint. There are times when I don't have much to do and ultimately sometimes I wish I had more responsibilities and work, but being a Co-Op puts a barrier for me to put my efforts into any heavy workloads and keeps me restricted to working only on work hours. I have become very passionate about the Wegmans new website project and contributed quite a bit so far, but I'm hoping in the future they will provide me with more responsibilities as I gain experience within the position.

Advice

One piece of advice I'd share would be to enjoy what you do and who you work with. Not only have I felt like I've gained more of a position of power and importance within my company, but my co-workers also are very respectful and make an effort to get to know me as a person. Overall this allows and motivates me to do better when I work everyday and improve myself as well in a more professional and technical level.
