Retail Sales Intern

May - August 2020 • Amherst, NY

What I liked

I thought that it was adapted well to COVID. I enjoyed listening to company leaders talk about their roles and much of the behind the scenes work at Wegmans.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more opportunities to learn more about the management role, but it was restricted due to COVID.

Advice

Be open to criticism and ask lots of questions.

Store operations management intern

June - August 2020 • Webster, NY

What I liked

I loved that Wegmans invested so much time into my learnings. They really care about their people and they made sure I got a lot of experience in store operations this summer.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had done an internship before Covid-19 happened. It was hard to do this internship because I never got to have in person meetings, it was all virtual which isn’t the energy.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is that you have to go out of your comfort zone. Wegmans pushed me to do things I wouldn’t normally do but I am so grateful I did those things. It makes you realize you can do anything you put your mind to.

Shopper

May 2019 • Montgomeryville, PA

What I liked

It’s a very independent and self directed position. It also is great for the pandemic because it helps people that are at risk avoid busy places and I can maintain social distancing at work.

What I wish was different

Sometimes it can get repetitive. Some customers are unresponsive so you have to make decisions for them without their input.

Advice

With time, you learn where everything is in the store and what replacements are best for the requested products. It definitely improves your critical thinking skills!

Grocery Florist

October 2013 • Amherst, NY

What I liked

Great work environment and knowledgable staff. The training was hands-on and easy to understand.

What I wish was different

The pay felt a little low for someone who had been with the company for so long and for someone being trained in so many different aspects of the day to day workings of the company.

Advice

There is always something new for you to learn, never be closed to learning from those who know more or have been working somewhere longer than you.

August 2013 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

I liked meeting new people everyday, and getting to know customers. Learning about the products in my department was very interesting and it was helpful to both myself and the customers to be able to tell them about products they were interested in.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would taken an advantage to do an internship or help out with a new store opening. Cross-training into a new department would have been cool too.

Pharmacy Technician

August 2019 • Geneseo, NY

What I liked

I got to learn all about what goes on in a pharmacy which was cool and helpful in my decision to go on to grad school in that field

What I wish was different

Training could have been a little slower, there is sooo much to learn all at once. It took several weeks to get caught up but I find the job enjoyable and very manageable after everything clicked.

Advice

Be patient with the training, it is a ton to learn and new situational cases always pop up. Everyone is there to help and it is the perfect example of how busy a pharmacy is and what is expected of employees.
