Market Research Intern

June - August 2016 • Shanghai, China

What I liked

I appreciated the amount of trust I was given to work with companies one-on-one. I was able to really develop as a person as well as a worker with such a large amount of responsibility.

What I wish was different

I was there was more guidance and communication between me, my supervisor, and the other interns. With freedom and responsibility comes individualism which sometimes can feel like you are all alone.

Advice

I would say communication is key. If you would like more or less of something, or want to change an aspect of your position you have to communicate it properly otherwise you'll never get an opportunity you could have.

Consulting Analyst Intern

June - July 2018 • Shanghai, China

What I liked

That my supervisors encouraged me to ask questions, learn, and observe things that were happening in the workplace.

What I wish was different

I wish that the introduction to the company was a little more smooth. I went into the internship and I was the only intern for two weeks, they had little work to give me and I sat around doing nothing for awhile. It wasn't until halfway through my internship that I had enough work to keep me busy each day.

Advice

It's a big learning curve, working with Chinese websites and being thrown into work with little explanation, but just remember to ask questions and learn from what you are being told.
