Wayfair

Accounts Receivable Analyst

January - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The culture was incredible and vast. They are very supportive of employees and they make the office as comfortable as possible. The commute was super simple. The work that you do is important and meaningful. You are a member of your team, and you are not someone that goes on coffee runs and shreds paper.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had not experienced as much turnover on my team as I did. I had 5 different managers over the 8 month internship, and each manager had their own managing styles which created some white space in collaborating with them

Advice

Whatever you learned in school, do not treat it as bible. Working in a professional environment is all about people skills and learning the unique softwares / technologies / procedures that the company uses. You can't learn this stuff in school.

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Good experience. I would recommend it for learning how to work with customers. No matter what career, the customer is always the most important. And every job has customers whether they are internal or external

Data Asset Coordination Co-Op

May - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked getting to work on a team of professionals doing data analysis for cutting edge technology. Working alongside these people, I was able to gain valuable work skills that I can bring to where my path leads me in the future. Additionally, I learned about my communication style and how that shows up in a work environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I was around other interns throughout my internship program. I was the only person still in college in my department and I felt slightly alienated from the rest of my co-workers.

Advice

I would recommend engaging with co-workers and diving into any unknowns you can. The best thing that comes from the unknown is the learning you get from working through the issues that arise!

Business Associate Intern

June - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Loved having a collaborative and cross functional environment where I could meet and work with a lot of people in the company. I had hands on experience spearheading initiatives and taking on projects and I loved having the opportunity to have that ownership.

What I wish was different

Being able to meet more interns and to have more intern events

Advice

Put yourself out there, always ask your supervisor for more when you're done with a project (it'll improve your chances of getting a return offer), ask questions all the time, and take advantage of all the resources the company offers you.

Software Engineering Co-op

July 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Awesome learning experience. Great managers and mentor (they really want you to succeed). Very friendly open office. Plenty of networking opportunities and co-op specific events. And of course, free snacks.

What I wish was different

Work-related: nothing really, I just wish the co-op could be a bit longer. Non-work: Better perks for co-ops + free housing would be nice.

Advice

Let your managers know early what you expected and what you wanted to get out of this co-op. Don't limit yourself to knowing just your team. Make use of the open office structure and coffee chats.

Business Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The company culture is fantastic. The company is very collaborative. I was always working with different teams, learning about different departments. Every day is different and there is always more to learn. The internship challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer than 10 weeks. I also wish that the company had housing assistance for students outside of Boston.

Advice

Don't be afraid or intimidated. Don't worry if you feel you are not in the right place. There are a lot of people in the company and many opportunities to learn about other teams. This is actually highly encouraged. Be yourself and be enthusiastic. It is a great experience.

I loved this internship! Wayfair gives you a lot of freedom, works with your best skills and makes it fun. There are a lot of intern events. I had a great relationship with my manager and my team, which made the experience even better!

What I wish was different

Sometimes HR did not communicate information well about the processes

Advice

Curiosity is everything. This company wants to see that you are interested in learning, developing, and becoming better at your work every day. It changes constantly, so if you are someone who likes a lot of consistency in your job, this company will not be a good match for you!
