WAIL OF A TALE

Social Media Intern

May 2022 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

Marty is very understanding and welcoming. She makes sure to listen to you and take your feedback. I felt respected and encouraged to offer new ideas.

What I wish was different

I sometimes wished there were more of a set schedule, though I understand as an unpaid and remote internship that is just how it goes.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to bring up any concerns, feedback, or new ideas.

What I liked

The vibe between the board members and interns is very chill and friendly! I got a chance to learn much about social injustice issues as well as many social media promotion strategies. I am so glad to help Marty and her team to build a nonprofit organization on the ground. Marty is really an amiable, patient, helpful, and caring director. So happy to work with WT during the summer!

What I wish was different

I took an internship with Wail of a Tale at the beginning of the summer under the pretense that I would be learning and developing my skills in a helpful and encouraging environment; I got everything but that. The owner is abusing interns as she has hired up to 10 of them, and is using them to run her company as if they were full time employees. An internship at Wail of a Tale will not help develop any relevant skills and could hardly even be called an internship to begin with, more like free work. Avoid an internship with this company at all costs as it will not help you and will most likely take advantage of you.

Advice

Do not intern at this company unless you are okay with no pay and no guidance or development of your skills.

What I liked

The interns and Marty! Marty has been a great and chill director of Wail of a tale! She has been a great resource and guide with so much care in her interns and company. It’s great internship to start off your career and to work while being in school or have another job. I definitely recommend this internship for those starting off in their college internship journey.

What I wish was different

I wish it was more interns and paid.

Advice

Be ready to share your ideas and creativity! This is a remote internship so prepare for once or twice a weekly meetings.
