I liked the sense of importance I had in my job and the contributions I made to the bigger project. I liked knowing that I was contributing to the team and working to protect and preserve Lake Champlain which is a very important cause in Vermont. I also liked working near my fellow interns in the office and learning from my mentors.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more opportunity to work in the field rather than staying in the office for the majority of the internship. I would have liked to get more hands on experience rather than working in the office on the raw data. I also would have liked to work more with the other interns and possibly had a team to work on rather than performing mostly individual work.
Advice
It is important to work hard and keep learning throughout the research and internship process. Even when it seems that you've hit a wall and you don't know what to do next, it is crucial to problem solve and ask for help from mentors. At the end of the internship, you will be proud of what you've accomplished and look back at what you overcame.
