Vornado Realty Trust

Property Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Paramus, NJ

What I liked

Great opportunity to learn about the REIT market. Very professional teams. Got exposed to many different roles and opportunities.

What I wish was different

We had done a consulting cup project through the 2 months which was a new experience for other college interns, but for me was not.

Advice

Always be willing to step up and take on more responsibility.

Leasing Administration Assistant

May - August 2018 • Paramus, NJ

What I liked

I liked learning a lot about the real estate industry and getting hands-on experience with leasing documents. The people I had worked with were very inviting and treated me as if I had been working with them for years. This was my first internship, so it was a great opportunity for me to learn as much as I could.

What I wish was different

Although the work I was given was important to the department I worked in, some assignments were very basic. At times I would quickly finish these simple tasks and be bored for some time. I am also not a huge fan of the cubicle environment. The workplace was set up where four cubicles were kind of grouped together, but I personally like to work in a more open space.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would give is to go in with a positive attitude. Many internships are given a bad rep by people saying all you will do is basic work such as getting your boss coffee. In more times than others, that is not the case. Although I was given basic work in the beginning, my boss realized that I was capable of tougher and more advanced projects. Thus, I was able to receive work that I made me feel like I was really contributing to the company as well as learning a lot more.
