Great company values, good people, good manager, very supportive environment. Lots of company pride in a way that I found productive.
What I wish was different
I had a unique internship in that it wasn't in an established program, so I didn't have a normal onboarding experience. I wish I was introduced more to the company and the product in my starting week(s).
Advice
Don't be afraid to meet new people in the business and expand your personal network.

Project Management Intern
January - May 2022 • Greensboro, NC
What I liked
The company culture- very good mentors and good balance between work life and personal life. Everyone is eager to teach and guide and help is always around the corner.
Hands-on Experience- Managers actually take time to understand your interests and try to give you work in such a way you get to experience what you want and learn the necessary skills too. You can also approach anyone about anything!
What I wish was different
Managers changed in the middle of the internship which is hard on interns as interns need a lot of guidance on how to proceed with the internship and changing managers kind of cuts the communication and guidance.
Advice
Keep networking with as many people as you can and never hesitate to ask for guidance and help. Being proactive during the internship will make sure you get recognised.

Advice
Previously, I never considered interning with GTP as my majors correlate more with GTO and the logistics field, however, this internship has showed a me an entirely new side of business which I have truly enjoyed being apart of. My biggest piece of advice is to keep an open mind when applying, GTP is open to driven candidates from ALL business majors. The internship is an excellent way to learn about Purchasing, the importance of negotiation, role of Buyers, and if this career path is a right fit for you - would 100% recommend!

Mechanical Engineer Intern
January - May 2020 • Greensboro, NC
What I liked
Company culture
What I wish was different
Covid kind of wrecked my internship. I still got to finish it from home, but it definitely wasn’t the experience I wanted.
Advice
Take advantage of the opportunity to learn as much as possible from your mentors and teammates. The engineers at Volvo are brilliant and are more than willing to help you learn, just be brave enough to ask.

Quality Engineer Intern
May - August 2019 • Greensboro, NC
What I liked
I absolutely loved the people that I worked with and company culture that Volvo has. It is apparent that the full-time staff is always willing to provide advise/guidance in any desired area. Additionally, Volvo always encouraged their employees to pursue life-long learning, and would often send their employees to different trainings based on their interests as well as for their jobs.
What I wish was different
I wish that I could have been immersed in the daily work of the department I was in a bit more. I was able to observe a lot, but I wasn't able to help with the work load at all. Parallel to this, I wish that I could've had a bit more of a work load. Especially during some of the weeks that my manager was gone, I had to find some trivial things to work on.
Advice
Try to approach this experience with passion. Even if the work itself is not something you are passionate about, try to apply your passion and your excitement to be alive to the work that you do. Not only will this propel you forward at Volvo, but it will also aid in networking around the company.

Maintenance Engineer
May - August 2018 • Allentown, PA
What I liked
Truck assembly plant, was very cool atmosphere and awesome to see such a large production of large trucks being made.
What I wish was different
The company seemed very unorganized and didn't pay much attention to their interns. Many of the other interns did absolutely nothing and the company seemed to be fine with it. The company had many problems that could have been worked on by each intern but was neglected.
Advice
Push for more work, always ask for something more.

Market Analyst Intern
May - August 2018 • Greensboro, NC
What I liked
I was able to meet many people across departments and everyone was extremely nice and helpful and wanted to get to know me on a personal level. I was given a lot of responsibility at this internship and was able to take ownership of my project and even present it to the leasing team at the end of the summer. The work was challenging and I was able to gain experience with Excel and analyzing data. There were over 100 interns during the summer and we had weekly intern events, which were great and it was awesome to meet interns from across the country. We also got to drive one of the Mack Trucks, which was a very unique experience! I would definitely recommend this internship to anyone interested in the transportation industry or who wants to learn more about trucks.
What I wish was different
Advice
Ask as many questions as you can to learn more about the industry. Get to know people outside of your department as they can be very helpful if you have questions.

Quality Assurance Intern
June - August 2018 • Rockleigh, NJ
What I liked
The people. It was by far the best work experience I have ever had. I enjoyed what I did and who I did it with.
What I wish was different
I wish my department wasn't moving to South Carolina so I could go back again.
Advice
I have worked in the corporate world before and I was not the biggest fan of it. After that experience I feared what the real world really had in store and that all jobs would be as unexciting as my first. However, I found out this summer that's not the case. Your entire work experience changes on a dime by the people you work with.
