What I liked

Our lead scribes were very helpful even after training had ended. There’s a lot of resources to help make you feel comfortable in every aspect of the job.

What I wish was different

The hiring process takes a little while so just being patient

Advice

It’s a little overwhelming in the beginning so reach out to coworkers because we’ve all been through the same process.

ER medical scribe

April 2019 • Boise, ID

What I liked

I enjoy that I get to work alongside physicians in the ER to ensure that the patient’s chart is current and accurate. I am able to see firsthand several types of cases ranging from simple cuts to level one traumas such as car accidents and heart attacks. I am also able to work with the doctor to determine the best plan of action for each patient, allowing me to learn as I work.

What I wish was different

I wish the training would have been more complex. I was completely overwhelmed the first day I had to show up to work. I feel like we only focused on some of the major components of the job, but not all of them.

Advice

Even if you do not think you could do this, try any way. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I do not regret it. This has been the greatest experience for me.

Medical Scribe

July 2018 • Escondido, CA

What I liked

It was an amazing experience to immerse myself into the emergency room and learn much more about the aspects about being a doctor that I never knew or realized. I am continually learning every single shift

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to work a bit more and that the schedule was a bit more flexible.

Advice

I think the biggest piece of advice is that to not go into a life long profession before learning more about it and immersing yourself into the career of your choosing. It can be very different from what you initially expect
