Undergraduate Researcher

May - July 2019 • Lacrosse, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed spending my summer learning about a topic I wished to pursue. My research was food ethics and even though we do not yet have a course like it on campus, I got to explore it through undergraduate research. My favorite part of researching was reaching out to community organizations and experts in the field for their thoughts and resources.

What I wish was different

I honestly wish the research period was longer. The material I covered was very broad and I could spend many more months reading literature and speaking with students/faculty about it. I am planning on continuing my research next year so I can do just that!

Advice

My advice is to explore all your options and try new things. If a job/internship opportunity seems out of your reach, find a trusted professor or advisor to talk through your goals and the steps to reach them. There may be avenues you haven't explored and projects you can support.
