Emergency Department Technician

What I liked

I liked that I was able to get my feet wet in the hospital setting and able to apply the knowledge I have acquired within nursing school to real life situations. I also like that I was able to find a job in the ED, which is a specialty I am heavily considering post graduation in May.

What I wish was different

I wish I was at a bigger hospital that is busier and sees more critical patients. I also don't like how I am often pulled away from my department to handle patients in other settings due to staff shortages.

Advice

You definitely want to work in a hospital prior to graduating with a nursing degree so you become familiar with a hospital setting, patient care, and more. Try to get a job in a certain specialty that you want to end up in so you can gain experience and be a better candidate once you graduate.
