This internship was excellent. I had the opportunity to work on four bank examinations and was given a lot of independence. There was very little "busy work," and a lot of hands-on experience. Definitely would recommend to other business students!
What I wish was different
While getting the chance to perform examinations in person would have been good experience, the ability to work from home gave me the flexibility to also take summer courses.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions! You are not expected to know everything going in, and clarifying information/expectations that you don't understand benefits both you and your supervisors.

What I liked
Personal 1:1 time with people working in my industry. Easy, slow paced work environment. Learned a lot.

Maybe just to be paid more, or be able to work there more.
Advice
The summer goes by quick. Take advantage of every week and try to learn new stuff constantly.

HBE intern

What I liked
I liked that my boss was very good at explaining new concepts to me and making me feel included.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more freedom to try new things. Because it was a government organization, there was a lot of red tape and things I didn’t have access to try. That inhibited my creative freedom.
Advice
I would share that you should always try new experiences even if you don’t think you’ll like it long term. Knowledge is knowledge and you’ll never know later when it will come in handy!

Audit Intern

What I liked
We were given real intern work, helping on real rate cases along side senior-level staff. Utility regulation is an accounting/finance job field not many think about, but it is highly specialized and interesting to learn about.
What I wish was different
At first, you know nothing so you’re a little useless, the first two weeks is all about reading and understanding what utility regulation is. I just wish the first two weeks interns got to see a little more of the action, since it’s only a 10 week summer internship.
Advice
Ask for work, sometimes staff thinks you have a lot to do so they won’t offer work. There’s a lot to learn if you ask for work. Remember to act professional in the workplace by avoiding being on your phone.

Information Technology Intern

What I liked
The SCC is a great place to work. Everyone is very nice and happy to have interns working there for the summer. I would definitely do the internship again if given the opportunity.
What I wish was different
It would be nice if there were more events for interns from different departments to get to know each other.
Advice
Ask full time employees questions about their jobs if you are interested in doing that position.
