Going in blind, not knowing anything about microbiology. By the end, I was running my own tests and diagnosing.
What I wish was different
Nothing, everyone in the lab is very friendly. It's a very welcoming learning environment. Everyone wants you to succeed.
Advice
Be open and ready to learn. Take notes. Things that I learned during the internship are applicable to my classes now.

Microbiology Intern
May - August 2019 • Warrenton, VA
What I liked
It was an absolutely amazing experience to work hands-on in veterinary microbiology, serology, and necropsy. There were so many different cases and species that came through, and determining a diagnosis from the available information was very satisfying. I got plenty of hands-on time in the necropsy chamber and learned about anatomy in different species.
What I wish was different
It took me a while to learn everything. If there was an information packet or something similar explaining the different testing techniques, I think it would be easier to learn about microbiology.
