View Arts Center

intern in ceramics and exhibitions

June - August 2019 • Old Forge, NY

What I liked

This internship was very indecent because of my level of experience in both areas. My supervisors really cared about my opinion and we’re excited to hear feedback from me and the other interns.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more structure to how to work day flowed.

Gallery Preparator and Ceramics Technician intern

June - August 2019 • Old Forge, NY

What I liked

Having the opportunity to learn in a professional gallery setting, and being involved in the workings of a multi-million dollar arts center.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been someone specifically in charge of running the studio-side if the arts center; they are currently searching for a permanent paid position in managing the studios.

Advice

There was always something to do, even if we didn’t think there was. They are constantly working towards perfecting and streamlining all of their departments.

Events Intern

June - August 2019 • Old Forge, NY

What I liked

It's a wonderful place to work. It being an arts center, there are always beautiful pieces of artwork and some fantastic performances held. There are also several events hosted by View that are nice to both work at and attend - like the Ice Cream Social and the Craft Fair.

What I wish was different

View could do better to organize themselves, meaning simply that the institution could be run more efficiently. They're on that track now, with a new and motivated President, however as it stands, View is a bit clumsy in their execution of some aspects of what they provide.

Advice

Always communicate. Never keep something you've been mulling over or something that you think should happen to yourself.
