Victoria's Secret

Sales Associate

August 2019 • Auburn, WA

What I liked

I am really enjoying the team that I am working with because they have all been really helpful in learning the ins and out of the hob and they have also been really encouraging of my pursuits of leadership roles.

What I wish was different

I think I would like a bit more time during onboarding to shadow some current employees on the floor so we can really get a feel for the different conversations we should be having.

Advice

I would tell people that this job is probably not what you expect it to be and it can, in fact, be quite challenging because of the speciality expertise you need.

Sales Associate

July 2018 • Scottsdale, AZ

What I liked

Everyone was super supportive and wonderful to work with, and there was a real focus by management on giving me opportunities to learn despite the fact that I was there for only a short time. There's an opportunity to learn skills including cashiering, selling, marketing, shipment, inventory, visual set-up, and branding. Most employees were female which was refreshing. Also, there were great discounts and often free product!

What I wish was different

Shipment shifts can be awful; they often start early in the morning and go until 12. The store I worked in would give either a 15 or a 30 minute break, but not both. Also, sales positions are very focused on building the customers bag despite anything else and trying to make as much money as possible, which felt somewhat disingenuous to me.

Advice

Be outgoing and open to new experiences, and work hard to get to know your coworkers. Do the Victoria's Secret University tasks and get to know all the product.

Bra Fitting Expert

June 2016 - August 2019 • Newark, CA

What I liked

I liked working with a team of mostly women and a few great guys to work for mostly female shoppers and give them a great shopping experience. I fitted women for their proms, weddings, and first time buying bras. It was a great experience and I would do it again.

What I wish was different

I can't say much, it was a great company.

Advice

I would say that it's taught me to be more patient and a better listener.

What I liked

Things I like about Victoria's Secret is that I work with great and hardworking people. No matter what happens during our shifts we try and have a great time as well as help women feel strong, empowered and confident in themselves.

One thing I wish was different would be the guidelines on theft.

September 2015 • Lee's Summit, MO

What I liked

At the beginning of my career with Victoria's Secret I really liked the people that I worked with, and getting the free things.

What I wish was different

Company policies at Victoria's Secret are absolutely terrible, and they don't stand up and support their employees at all.

Digital Production Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved how diverse my team was, and how helpful my manager was in helping me set up meetings with company leaders. Additionally, a large portion of the workforce is female, which is empowering. Also, I got to go to the headquarters in Columbus, OH, which was a great experience as well.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a greater volume of work and the ability to be part of meetings that were outside of my production focus, as exploring other areas would've been helpful in the learning process as well.

Advice

I would advise any future Victoria's Secret interns to keep an open mind about the brand, as the people who are behind the brand are excellent resources and work hard to continuously improve themselves and the company as a whole.

Sales Associate

June - September 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked how close the workers were with each other. Working in a job on 5th avenue as a sales associate isn't easy, but my coworkers made working a lot easier.

What I wish was different

I wish some of the managers would care more about you and how you're making your sales goals rather than just looking at your numbers. You can tell which managers actually care and which ones just want you to do well during their segment.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is don't let the job get to you. Go to work and do the best job you can. Everyday isn't a great day, but just keep pushing. Also, socialize with other workers while you're there or you'll hate the job.

Retail

July 2017 • Palm Desert, CA

What I liked

I love the work environment my managers and coworkers create.

What I wish was different

I wish customers would he more understanding that we don't always have the knowledge of what the corporation does. That we are just another chain store.

Advice

Retail definitely teaches you to be patient. So I would suggest to just go to work ready to be challenged, that way when you are just to be ready to confront the situation with a bit more ease and less stress.

Season Associate

May 2018 • Burnsville, MN

What I liked

There's a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the customers were pretty nice as well! We all want to help and everyone there doesn't mind being helped, and most of the time, everyone's pretty happy. (The deals employees we get aren't bad either!)

What I wish was different

While I understand getting people to sign up for credit cards is important, I wish it wasn't so emphasized...you don't want to see like an annoyance to customers.

Advice

It's more rewarding when you actually put in the effort!
