My time as an Intern at Vermillion Financial Advisors has really opened my eyes to the profession of Financial Planning. The staff is very supportive and goes out of their way to help you learn. Vermillion gives you opportunities to sit in on Client-Advisor meetings which is something that not many interns in this field have. I also really enjoyed working in a collaborative environment with other interns as well as the existing staff as there was always someone willing to help me out and answer my questions. Overall my experience at Vermillion Financial Advisors was very beneficial as I learned a lot of new aspects of financial planning, and was taken under the wing of some of the most excellent role models and professionals in the industry.
What I wish was different

Keep an open mind and learn as much as you can. There is no better way to learn about Financial Planning than experiencing it firsthand, and Vermillion creates the most ideal environment to do so. Sit in on Client-Advisor meetings and work hard with your peers every day. You will be very surprised at how much you can not only learn, but accomplish in just one summer.

What I liked
From day one, the staff were incredibly welcoming. The financial planning profession spans 7 different disciplines and whether I had a question about qualified retirement plans, insurance policies, or rebalancing client portfolios there was always a staff member willing to teach me something new. Mark La Spisa, managing advisor and president of VFA, especially made a positive impact on my experience through his constant positive feedback on how to improve my work ethic and the quality of the work I produce. 10/10 experience that I would recommend to any finance focused student.

If you get the chance to become a summer intern for VFA, I highly recommend coming in with an open mind, a pad of paper, and a pen because you are going to learn an immense amount of information about financial planning and personal development.
