Research Intern/student

June - August 2018 • Reading, England

What I liked

I enjoyed the freedom I had with my research project. It was difficult to choose a path to take when I got to a point in my research where I had options, although the experience helped me grow my research creativity and initiative. I also bonded greatly with my supervisor and created a life long connection with not only an employer, but a friend.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more experience going into the research project. I went into the project working with PhD students and research professionals, where everyone knew exactly what to do and when to do it. I felt very small and insignificant a lot of the time and I wish that I was have spoken up more and asked more questions.

Advice

I would say prepare! Do research on your project and come in with your own set of knowledge already established! Ask Questions! This may be your only chance to get to work with such a diverse group of knowledge. Lastly, build relationships and hang out with the people you work with outside of the project. These friendships could turn into serious job opportunities in the near future.

Advice

well this experience changed my life, since English is my second language, so I never thought I’ll get this internship doing research. And the best experience I’ll say working with embryos and making my hypothesis of what will happen in my results
