January 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

Really great way to gain basic patient care experience if you are going into medicine

What I wish was different

Nothing. It was a great experience.

Advice

I would wait until a few semesters into the nursing program before starting to work as a care partner if you can afford it. Getting clinical experience and settling into the new environment is important. I didn't start as early as some people and I still found it extremely beneficial.

I loved that we are making new discoveries and that every week is a new learning experience for me.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to go further into my research opportunity. I also wish that I had some more hands on experience than just case studies and personal interviews.

Advice

Do not do it for the money. Do it for the experience or the journey. Having my name published under a new scientific find is worth more than any experience money could buy.
