What I liked

Summer sales is hard work. But it boosted my personal communication and sales skills through the roof! I worked my butt of for 3 months and made over 30k

What I wish was different

I wish I would have recruited more

Advice

If you’re interested at all, at least try it for one summer. It is the PERFECT job for college students because you work during the summer and make enough that you don’t have to worry about work the rest of the year.

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

This most important aspect of the job that affected my experience was my manager. He had personal things come up in life that made it hard for him to be motivated and resulted in the whole team losing motivation.

Pesticide Applicator

May - July 2019 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

Great pay. $9,000 in 9 weeks for spraying bugs.

What I wish was different

I wish the manager had allotted more time for completing each job and then traveling to the next job.

Advice

Spraying bugs is less emotionally taxing than selling pest control. If you want about $20 an hour and are okay not making $40-$140 an hour like sales guys, spraying bugs is a good job. One piece of advice: unless your heart is set on being a bug guy forever, spraying bugs as a summer job doesn’t help your resume at all.

Door-to-Door Sales Team Manager

February 2017 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I loved learning how to run a team amd manage people and keep them motivated. Customer relations was also an interesting part of the job.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been better informed about the power dynamic of the company and teams, who was my direct supervisor and who I was responsible for.

Advice

Shop around before you pick a summer sales company, the commission percentage is only a part of the whole picture to consider when deciding where to go and who to sell with. Also consider company culture, size, location, attrition rate, contract value, do you know the people you will sell with.

What I liked

I liked the experience to travel to a different area over the summer. Also I liked the challenged the job presented by placing yourself out of your comfort zone.

Sales

April - September 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I liked the fact that I was able to make a good amount of money to support my wife and I as we went to school, as well as being able to travel to a part of our country I have never been before. It was overall a good experience.

What I wish was different

The one problem I have with sales is that there is a specific environment that is very worldly and really "all about the money". You often find yourself telling small little lies to get a little more money. In the end, I am glad I did it, but wish I would have looked harder to find a more ethical and integrity driven job.

Advice

If you are wanting to jump into the summer sales routine, just know, yes you will make a good amount of money, probably better than anywhere else in Rexburg, but you will be sacrificing some core beliefs and values you have been taught for so long. At least I did, to a certain extent.

Sales Representative

July - September 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Hard working job, Full commission, no base pay rate. Self-motivated work and lots of fun activities such as company trips to go river rafting, and go to Lake Powell. Other incentives were applied as well. Great work environment and supportive people.

What I wish was different

I wish i knew my goals better when i began the job

Advice

Yes you can make a lot of money doing summer sales. It is not a balanced lifestyle, so plan accordingly what you want to do and make it a worthwhile experience. Nobody else is going to do the work for you, its all on you. But there are many willing to teach you what you need to do to be successful .
